Sailing holidays from Portorož in Slovenia: General information

Portorož is a district of the municipality of Piran and a seaside resort on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. Characterised by tourism, the most important source of revenue, you will find large hotel complexes with thermal baths in the centre of the town in addition to the marina. Due to the proximity to Germany and Austria, a cruise from Portorož is an interesting alternative to a Croatian sailing holiday. In addition to the large, man-made sandy beach in the centre, Portorož has a rocky coastline. Portorož is particularly famous for its casino and the noble flair of times gone by. Many interesting towns with historical centres such as Izola, Piran and Rovinj are in the immediate vicinity.

The sailing estuary around Portorož is more diverse than any other. The coastline is dotted with historic villages and towns steeped in history. Popular sailing destinations in the area are the beaches and bays around Portorož, Piran, Koper and Izola.

But Portorož is also a great starting port for sailing trips along the Croatian coast towards the south and into the Kvarner Gulf. On the way to the islands of the protected Kvarner Gulf are Umag, Novigrad, Poreč, Rovinj, Vrsar and Pula on the southern tip of Istria.

But a direct sail to Venice and the exploration of the lagoons of Venice and Chioggia are also recommended on a yacht charter from Portorož. A visit to the Italian seaside resort of Grado and the port city of Trieste are also possible on this sailing route.

Portorož offers space for 1000 moorings in the water, on land and in hangars. As the marina is protected from winds from all directions, there are favourable conditions for water sports at any time of the year. Sailors will find an extensive infrastructure at the marina. These include:

Getting to Portorož Marina in Slovenia

Portorož is easy to reach by car from Austria or Germany. The distances here are:

• Salzburg: 400 km
• Vienna: 500 km
• Graz: 300 km

Parking is available at the marina for a fee (€15/day and €105/week).

Ljubljana International Airport is 140 km away. From the airport you can drive directly to Portorož. The transfer time from Ljubljana to the marina is approx. 1.5 hours. Other airports nearby are Trieste airport with a transfer time of approx. 1 hour and Pula airport with a transfer time of approx. 1 hour. Both airports are approx. 80 km away from Marina Portorož.
